Aprilia`s rider Casey Stoner claimed today his first victory in the second round of the 250 cc. Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix (MotoGP) that took place at Estoril circuit of Portugal. The podium places where completed by Andrea Dovozioso, as the best Honda, and French Randy de Puniet.

In a interesting and struggled race, the Australian won starting from 12th place in the grid. "I had a very complicated weekend since Friday. However we started the competition with a good general set-up. It`s fantastic, I didn`t expect a finish like this", stated the brand-new winner in 250cc.

The 19 year old driver fought for the first place, but didn`t took the victory until the last lap, when he left behind de Puniet.

Seven days behind, at Jerez, Stoner was on third place when he felt pushing off the limits.

This is the third victory for Stoner in the Continental Circus, the other two where in 125cc on Valencia 2003 and Malaysia 2004, with KTM at that time.

Second place belonged to 125cc current champion, Dovizioso. The Italian became in the strong men of Honda when Daniel Pedrosa couldn`t follow the leading group at the end. "The start was complicated due to the track conditions. I didn`t expect this season start in 250cc", commented the 19 years old, while he added: "I`m very happy with today`s result", he said.

Like he did on 2003 and 2004, de Puniet finished the Portugueese GP on third place. On Saturday, the French rider proved his conditions by setting his ninth pole position in the category, and on Sunday recovered from a complicated first part of the race, when he lost until sixth place. "It`s been a hard race. It was difficult to follow the head of the race in the start", de Puniet said. About the last lap action, the Aprilia men mentioned: "I was on first and I thought I could win, but a little mistake in the last part of the circuit and I lost the chances there", he explained.

Current champion, Dani Pedrosa, had a complicated race, although he finished on fourth and took good points for the championship. "In the second half of the comeptition, the rear tyre wasn`t ok. I also had problems with the helmet and I couldn`t have the right vision", was the explanation of the Telefonica Movistar team rider.

The greatest frustation of the day belong to Sebastian Porto. The Argentinian of Aprilia led from the green lights until the tyires made him loose places to end ninth, far away the leaders. "We didn`t have luck today. If it wasn`t for the problems in the rear tyre, the race was ours", said Porto.

With two races, Pedrosa leads the standings with 38 points, followed by Dovizioso, 33, Porto and Alex de Angelis, both 27, and Stoner with 25.

Next round will be on May 1st. at Shanghai for the GP of China.
