CHECA READY FOR HOME RACE IN JEREZ
Honda LCR rider Carlos Checa is ready for an emotion charged weekend at his home race, the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez, the second round of the MotoGP world championship. As usual, the Jerez circuit will be overflowing with fans, creating a tense atmosphere especially for Spanish riders such as Checa who will celebrate his 175th MotoGP start this Sunday.
Eager to make amends for his disappointing start to the season, Checa and crew chief Ramon Forcada have already discussed a plan to improve the set-up of the new 800cc Honda RC212V. After an impressive practice performance, Checa crashed out of last week's Qatar Grand Prix in Doha.
The Honda LCR squad will also contest the 250cc Spanish Grand Prix with young Irish rookie Eugene Laverty, who made his debut with the team in Qatar.
Checa: "I always feel very emotional at Jerez because this is my "home race" and for sure I will have a lot of fans around me, which is always a great feeling. But I need to concentrate on the race because I do not want to repeat the mistakes of Qatar. I know the Jerez track and I'm aiming for a good result on Sunday. I've spoken with Ramon Forcada and we have some ideas to improve the front-end feeling of the bike. I think I missed a good chance to finish in the lead group at Qatar, but that is behind me now, I'm just looking ahead to a better performance Jerez."
Laverty: "I will be a little more relaxed coming into Jerez after the experience of the first race at Qatar where we had some small mechanical problems. I learnt from the experience of finishing that race and my aim now is make another step forward this weekend."
