Repsol Honda press release
The Repsol Honda Team shows authority as it leaves Sepang
Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa the Malaysian circuit with the satisfaction of having done some good work: the Repsol Honda Team once again set the fastest lap times on the final day of practice in Sepang. The riders will now travel to Madrid for the presentation of the Repsol team on Saturday.
The second official practice of 2012 at Sepang ended with the Repsol Honda Team coming out on top over the three days of tests. Casey Stoner set the best time on the final day with a flying lap of 2:00.473, whilst his teammate Dani Pedrosa finished second with a fastest time 2:00.648, just 0.175 seconds behind the Australian.
In spite of not having ridden on the previous day the two riders from the factory team were able to carry out all the tests that had been programmed for the three days in Malaysia. Casey and Dani concentrated their work on setting up the chassis, especially on lowering the bouncing that appeared in earlier tests and they now consider it slightly improved.
The next date is the official practice at Jerez, at the end of March; a different track where the team and riders will be able to confirm their sensations and find new references for the Honda RC213V, with the first race of the season in mind; on 8th April in Qatar. Before that the presentation of the team in the Palacio de los Deportes, in Madrid this weekend.
Dani Pedrosa 2:00.648, 40 laps, 222 km.
"In this test we have concentrated on improving the chassis so as to get a better setup and we finished quite satisfied with the results. This is a special circuit and it is always important to leave with some clear ideas for the future. We have improved the braking a little and we have to fine tune corner taking, entry and the rest, but perhaps we will notice an improvement when we concentrate on the engine electronics, which will be in Jerez. The chassis has been improved quite a lot, we have less chattering than during the previous test and that is positive. Today we tried out a modification on the screen so that we can ride more comfortably on the straights and I also noticed an improvement there".
Casey Stoner 2:00.473, 34 laps, 189 km.
"We have not been able to take advantage of the three days of these tests in Sepang either; on the first day we could only do 16 laps before rain began to fall and yesterday we didn`t get on the track at all. So it was important to have good weather, get on the track and try different things out. We have worked on the electronics to try and find the engine response we like the best. We also tried to shorten the wheelbase and at the same time the amount of chattering, and there was a slight improvement, but for the time being we have not been able to eliminate it completely, so we still have a lot of work to in this respect. I feel fine with the chassis because we have more traction, the engine works better, although we need to eliminate the bouncing. Apart from that, we are pleased with the bike".
