Relentless rain prevents MotoGP practice on day one at Motegi

Friday practice cancelled after forecast rain moves in over Japanese track

Race direction had to cancel today’s schedule for round 17 of this year’s MotoGP World Championship with incessant rain preventing any chance of meaningful and safe practice for Sunday’s AirAsia Grand Prix of Japan at the Twin Ring Motegi.

Bad weather was forecast for the race weekend with warnings of a typhoon in place and it didn’t fail to disappoint this morning with fog and drizzle turning into steady rain.

There was a plan to wait until a decent gap in the weather before a revised schedule could be put into place but the break in the weather never materialized leading to the ultimate decision to cancel all Friday schedules.

Race direction is now drawing up a new schedule for Saturday but once again this will depend on the weather conditions.

The race is the second chance for rookie Marc Marquez to wrap up this year’s title for Repsol Honda.
