Sebastian Porto knew that the German GP at Sachsenring circuit was a very important opportunity to get a good result. On saturday Porto took the pole position after a great dispute with the other factory Honda driver, the Italian Roberto Rolfo. For the first time in a long time Honda dominated a qualify session and the expectatives for the race on sunday were very high for both. But the luck wasn`t with the Argentinian. Porto suffered problems with his rear tire during all the race and he couldn`t dispute the first place with Rolfo and company.
After all, Porto arrived fourth with the Honda of the Telefonica Movistar team.
Rolfo, 23 years, took the vicoty for the first time in the World Championship after 80 races.
Aprilia completed the podium with the Spanish Fonsi Nieto and the French Randy de Puniet, second and third.
Porto started from the first postion but quickly Rolfo took the lesdership followed by De Puniet.
During the first part of the race the Argentinian could follow the two leaders. But while the laps continue it was more and more difficult for him to control the Honda 250 RSW.
With half race complete, the Italian Guintoli and Nieto passed Sebastian.
Nieto did an interesting recovering after a mistake in the first laps of race. When Guintoli retired Porto took back the fourth place but he was far of the fight for the victory.
The Argentinian explained what happened: ¨It seemed to be a good weekend. This morning in the war up I was second, but the luck wasn`t with us!, a defective tyre killed our chance of be ahead, in the podium of Germany.
¨While the race continue it was more difficult arrive to the end. When I stopped in the pits, after the race, I saw the tyre was ruined¨, commented Sebastian.
And he add, ¨It was a pity, because this circuit helped to cut the gap with Aprilia. The chassis and the engine of the Honda worked very well. There`s no doubt that I could fight for the victory¨.
While Porto fought with his problems, the dispute for the leadership was fantastic between Rolfo, De Puniet and Nieto. The French led during some laps, but Rolfo who did a very intelligent race, waited his moment to take back the first place. Nieto tried everything to pass the Italian, but the Honda driver was in his day.
It was the first victory for the Honda 250 RSW. The last time that Honda won in the 250cc. World Championship was with Daijiro Kato in the Malaysia GP in 2001. Also, with this result Aprilia lost after 12 consecutive victories in the category.
Rolfo is the sixth different winner this season that has lots of candidate to fight the championship until the end.
Despite the bad work of Manuel Poggiali at Germany, he continue leading the championship with 129 points near followed by Nieto with 126, Rolfo with 122. Porto is eighth with 87 points.
Next round will be on August 17th. at Brno.
