According to a press release by Zoom Motorsports, the exclusive event promoter for Barber MotorSports, the 2005 USGP round will not take place at the Birmingham, Alabama circuit.

As in all businesses, the reason seems to point to money, or the lack thereof. Gene Hallman, President and CEO of Zoom Motorsports said that "While we had some success in our public sector fund raising efforts, we fell short of our overall goals. Public sector funding is projected to represent less than one-third of the overall race revenues. We were requesting the funds come from the economic development and tourism budgets."

Though not yet confirmed, this could be an indication of the cards falling in Laguna Seca's direction. Earlier this year, Dorna stated that America would be host of a MotoGP round in 2005. Until today, the two front-runners were Barber MotorSports and Laguna Seca.
