Motocross accident forces Marquez out of second Sepang test
Reigning MotoGP World champion fractures right leg in training incident
Marc Marquez's pre-season testing schedule was thrown into turmoil yesterday when the MotoGP Champion broke his right leg in a motocross training incident at home in Spain and although doctors have said no serious damage was sustained in the accident, Marquez will definitely miss the next pre-season test in Sepang, Malaysia scheduled to take place next week.
Thankfully there was no ligament damage and it seems like a clean break.
The rider's management team released the statement saying Marquez was, "Immediately taken to the Universitario Quirón Dexeus Hospital where Dr. Xavier Mir treated the spiral fracture of the distal third of his right fibula. After carrying out a CT scan and X-ray, Dr. Mir confirmed, 'The results showed no ligament damage or dislocation and no need to proceed with surgery. I expect he will need 3-4 weeks to fully recover.'".
Marquez has already begun his recovery programme with rehabilitation beginning with magnetic therapy but will be on crutches for at least two weeks, ruling him out of the Sepang test and also possibly the following week in Phillip Island, Australia. However, Repsol Honda expects Marquez to make a full recovery for the first race in Qatar MotoGP race on 23rd March.
Speaking after the accident Marquez was thankful that no serious or permanent damage was sustained in the accident. "It was a really unfortunate accident that could happen to anyone at anytime. I was rushed to hospital and Dr. Mir treated me, thankfully there was no ligament damage and it seems like a clean break," he said.
