Misano MotoGP: Marquez tops wet warm-up despite crashing

Honda MotoGP rider Marc Marquez topped a rain-hit morning warm-up session at Misano by almost a second, despite crashing out on his final lap.

The MotoGP paddock was greeted by intermittent rain on Sunday morning, with the track properly soaked in time for the premier-class Sunday practice.

As such, the 20-minute session presented the riders with their first and last chance this weekend to prepare for the sort of wet conditions that are expected for the race.

Marquez initially trailed Avintia Ducati's wet-weather specialist Loris Baz in the session, but upped his pace considerably towards the end, storming well clear of the pack on the timing screens.

His advantage over his rivals could've grown further if he completed his final lap, but the reigning champion tucked the front going through Turn 3 and slid out.

Behind Marquez, another known wet-weather maestro – Pramac Ducati's Danilo Petrucci – ended up 0.994s adrift in second.

Baz, who had an early-session spat with Jorge Lorenzo after the works Ducati rider slid up the track and made contact with the Frenchman, ended up a close third, with Lorenzo fourth.

LCR Honda's Cal Crutchlow was fifth, followed by the Suzuki of Andrea Iannone and championship contenders Maverick Vinales (Yamaha) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati).

Sam Lowes enjoyed a strong outing in ninth, right ahead of Pramac Ducati's Scott Redding, who will replace Lowes at Aprilia next year.

Marquez's Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa was 23rd and last, 5.672s off the pace, having had to lap on his second bike after his other Honda threw him up in the air on exit of Turn 12.

Joining the Honda works duo in crashing was Aspar Ducati's Karel Abraham, who, like Marquez, fell at Turn 3.
