Marc Marquez says he is not expecting MotoGP rival Valentino Rossi to apologise for their clash during the Malaysian Grand Prix.

Rossi will start the season finale at Valencia from the back of the grid after he was handed a penalty for his collision with the Honda rider at Sepang nearly two weeks ago.

The Yamaha rider said on Thursday that he regretted the actions that led to his clash with Marquez.

The Spaniard is hoping he can speak with Rossi about the incident after this weekend's race, but admitted he is not seeking an apology.

"No, at the end of the day I understand that Valentino is fighting for the championship and that he's focused on his things, and I agree with him that he has to fight with Jorge on track," Marquez told a press conference on Thursday when asked if he expected an apology from Rossi.

"I don't want to be in the middle, but obviously everybody fights for his own results.

"I just hope sooner or later - hopefully sooner - we can talk with Valentino, but it's obvious it has to be after this race."

Marquez, however, said he had not changed his opinion over the Malaysian incident.

"I said it in Malaysia and I would repeat here what I said in Malaysia, but I don't want to do it, because they asked us not to and I completely agree that we have to forget about that a bit and we enjoy this weekend.

"Everybody has their opinion, but at the end of the day you have to respect the decision from race control, from FIM, from CAS... And my opinion is the same it was in Malaysia."
