Marquez confirms he will stay at Honda in 2017
Two-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez is yet to officially re-sign with Honda, but even the Spaniard himself admits that he will inevitably remain with his current team next year.
Marquez does not even try to avoid questions about his renewal anymore as both him, the fans, and also the teams know that he will end up extending his contract with Honda, probably for two years.
The rider market started moving at full speed earlier than ever and that caught the Spanish rider off guard.
Marquez, Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi are the most coveted employees on the grid, and that lets them set the pace when it comes to the silly season.
Lorenzo forced the situation and made his teammate sign with Yamaha before anyone else (in Qatar), while he himself signed with Ducati a few weeks later (Austin).
After this, Marquez found himself with his hands tied and with the sole option of renewing with Honda, probably accepting a less favourable deal than the ones his status would entitle him to.
"I haven't signed yet, but this will be my bike next year," said Marquez on Tuesday in Barcelona during the official presentation of the upcoming Catalan Grand Prix.
"A contract has to be written properly. This year has been the exception because everything moved too fast. First Valentino renewed, and then Jorge. But I don't like that.
"Now, Jorge and Maverick [Vinales], for example, have to co-exist with a team they know they won't be with in 2017."
Despite being in favour of taking things easy, Marquez is curious about how his rivals will go with different bikes.
"It will be very interesting to see how Jorge goes with the Ducati, to see a rider of his level on that bike, or to see Maverick on the Yamaha."
