The Power Shift

The Power Shift explores the forces reshaping motorsports: new rules, new stars, new teams, new technology, and a new generation of fans redefining the future of racing.

Dorna has taken stock of what it described as a historic 2025 season for MotoGP, defined by Marc Marquez’s comeback story, as it recorded a 12% growth in the series’ global fanbase.

The narrative of the campaign largely revolved around the Marquez brothers - above all Marc, but also Alex Marquez, who played an unexpected role as supporting character. As the longest campaign in history unfolded, with 22 grands prix across 18 countries, fan engagement increased in a championship that has been undergoing accelerated change since Liberty Media’s arrival.

According to a report published on Thursday by Dorna, MotoGP’s global fan community has reached 632 million, representing a 12% increase compared to 2024.

At the same time, circuit attendance, which remains one of MotoGP’s key challenges, reached a record 3.6 million spectators. The standout moment came at Le Mans, where 312,000 fans attended the French Grand Prix weekend.

Based on audience data managed by Dorna, which remains confidential, television viewership grew by an average of 9% across the season. While significant, that rise was well below the 26% increase recorded for sprint races. In this context, it is worth noting that MotoGP has yet to announce which broadcaster will carry the championship in Italy from 2026, with Sky Italia’s current contract expiring on 31 December.

In the digital sphere, MotoGP surpassed 60 million followers across social media platforms, while the official YouTube channel exceeded one billion minutes watched. Demographic data also shows that more than half of MotoGP fans are under the age of 35, highlighting the championship’s strong appeal among younger audiences.

“This year has been historic, and a clear reflection of the work we have done to open up our sport to new audiences, while strengthening the connection with our fans,” explained Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta. “This year demonstrates the strength and dynamism of our sport today, and makes clear the power of MotoGP to captivate audiences around the world.”
