Marc Marquez only cares about MotoGP title and not records following Czech GP win

Marc Marquez extended his MotoGP championship lead to 120 points after becoming the first Ducati rider to win five consecutive grands prix on Sunday

Marc Marquez has revealed he isn’t interested in breaking MotoGP records and only cares about clinching the title after winning Sunday’s Czech Grand Prix.

The six-time world champion won from second on the grid, overcoming an early to and fro with Marco Bezzecchi, to finish 1.753s ahead of the Aprilia in second.

Marquez has now become the first Ducati rider to win five consecutive grands prix, also extending his championship lead to 120 points over title rival and younger brother Alex, who crashed at Brno following contact with Joan Mir.

“For me, the main priority and the only priority is to win the championship,” said Marc Marquez with 10 rounds left in the 2025 season.

“And now, I always try to speak honestly, I can only lose. I have 10 races where I have to keep the same mentality, where the team need to keep the same sprint and try to do our maximum.

“But the records, I don’t care. I just want to be world champion again.”

Marc Marquez, whose last title came in 2019, has dominated 2025 so far, winning eight of 12 grands prix as well as 11 sprint victories.

He is romping towards a seventh title, which would put him level with Valentino Rossi, but the Spaniard is not putting any pressure on himself.

“It’s true that we have a big advantage, but we will have many races back-to-back in a row, so keep focused, no stress,” Marquez added.

“I’ve had enough pressure this first part of the season to manage. Now we have the advantage, this gives me less pressure, but we need to manage all the situations.

“Of course, I will try to take the 37 points every weekend, but sometimes it’s not possible.”

Marquez has been at one with his GP25 since joining the factory Ducati fold this year, despite a few mistakes like crashing in Austin and Jerez.

A title victory would cap off a remarkable story, as a crash at the 2020 Spanish Grand Prix kickstarted a four-year injury-hit run for the then factory Honda rider.

The Spaniard returned properly last year with Gresini Ducati, finishing third with the satellite squad, leading to this dominant campaign which Marquez dubbed as “one of the best first parts of the season I’ve had in my career”.

“Now we’re in a very good moment, things are working in a very good way, and the bike is working,” he added.

“Last year was the crucial year. The Gresini team gave me the opportunity to come back and then I was riding in… not a perfect way, but step by step I got more and more confidence in myself.

“During these five years, maybe in my professional life, I lost the chance to fight for championships because of the injury, but at the same time, I grew a lot in my personal life.

“Never it’s good to have tough moments, but sometimes it helps a person to see the things, or even change your character in some situations.”
