San Marino Grand Prix poleman Jorge Lorenzo launched a verbal attack on his MotoGP-leading teammate Valentino Rossi after qualifying at Misano.

Lorenzo took pole by 0.106s from Honda’s Marc Marquez, but believes his position was put at risk when he had to avoid a dawdling Rossi on his final time attack.

“Unfortunately on the last [run], in the corner before the last one, I found Valentino who was slow and on the [racing] line,” said Lorenzo.

“So I have to lose some tenths that maybe I could improve, one or two tenths. I was lucky because Marquez couldn’t improve his laptime enough, but I could lose the pole position because of Valentino on the line.”

"Crazy qualifying"

Despite his anger at Rossi, Lorenzo was pleased with only his third pole of the season. He is 12 points behind Rossi in the points.

“It was a crazy qualifying, like always,” said Lorenzo. “As always, everyone was so fast. I tried my best with the three new [rear] tyres.

“Unfortunately, every time I exit the pits, the front tyre looked a bit worse, [affecting] me in the braking, because we didn’t change the front tyre, only the rear.”
