Lorenzo interested in expanded Ducati role for Stoner

The three-time MotoGP champion frequently exchanged opinions with Stoner during the two-day test, seeking counsel from he only man who has been able to win the title with the Ducati.

Lorenzo admitted on Friday in Madrid during an event for one of his sponsors that there was a good understanding between them, something that opens the door for their collaboration to grow next season.

"The relationship with Casey is very good," said Lorenzo, who is looking to use Stoner in the same analyst role Wilco Zeelenberg had at Yamaha.

"He's a very smart guy, very observant and who gives good advice. Also, despite having not competed for several years, he arrives in a circuit and is capable of going quicker than the works riders.

"It would be interesting to have him in the garage, but we haven't talked about it yet, although we will shortly.

"One of the problems is that he's very happy in Australia, and in order to help me he would have to move to Italy. I believe he's convinced and we'll see if he finally agrees something with Ducati."

Since Lorenzo decided to move to the Borgo Panigale team, he has been evaluating two possible advisors: Stoner and Max Biaggi.

However, the Italian has committed to Mahindra and will be in charge of a Moto3 team in the Italian championship (CIV), a move which is likely to have ruled him out working closely with Lorenzo.

A few days ago, Gigi Dall'Igna, Ducati's technical boss, admitted that the team's intention was to increase Stoner's involvement, and it looks like things are going in the right direction.
