Spanish rider Jorge Martin is expected to make an appearance during this weekend's MotoGP racing at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

Although Martin is not yet able to return to the bike due to his ongoing recovery from two pre-season crashes, he is expected to visit the Aprilia team during the Red Bull Grand Prix of The Americas.

Martin crashed during pre-season testing in Sepang, injuring his right hand and left foot. After bouncing back quickly from surgery, he got back on the back but only to end up suffering from a further crash, which left him requiring another surgery on his left hand. After winning the championship in 2024, the 2025 season is running away without him.

Current championship leader Marc Marquez was asked about Martin's return trackside.

“It's good for him and for Aprilia,” Marquez said in the press conference ahead of the weekend. “We need the number one on the race track, we need Aprilia there in the top because in the end the championship with more riders, more manufacturers, is a better championship.

“And it’s a good strategy because it's a new team for him. Then it looks like he will be at the Qatar GP but it's necessary for a rider to adapt to the bike and also to the team. So it's a way to adapt the team.”

Martin recently opened up on his "long" recovery journey during a vlog posted to his YouTube channel.

"The first two weeks were pretty hard. You have doubts. You say 'maybe I won’t be the same as before.' But I’m starting to see the light now I can train again," he said.

“Those weeks without being able to leave the house were killing me. I don’t know when I’ll return, but I’m already in the process. I’m eating well, I can laugh, I can cough - because before the rib hurt.

"I never thought that an injury could last so long. Portimao was very hard, but after a month I was already on the bike. But now it’s been six weeks and still the return to MotoGP is far away.

“But there’s no other choice, we are working hard and it is what it is. Every day we are closer to recovering, that’s the current motivation.”
