What a comeback: Kallio eighth. Firsts points in the championship for Canepa
Since this morning warm up it was clear that Mika Kallio, Pramac Racing rider, was feeling good and was ready for the race. Started from seventeenth position, the Finnish rider has made another great performance like at his MotoGP debut two weeks ago in Qatar. After a few turns he found himself in last position, but thanks to his aggressiveness he made it to comeback finishing in eighth position. Mika made it to reach and overtake during the race Edwards, De Angelis, De Puniet, Vermeulen and Toseland. His teammate, Niccolo Canepa, has conquered his first World Championship points thanks to today's fourteenth position. Next World Championship round in seven days in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, for the first European Grand Prix of the MotoGP 2009 season.
Fabiano Sterlacchini - Pramac Racing Technical Director
"Sincerely I didn't expect such a result as we weren't starting in optimal conditions. It has been an unlucky weekend after Friday's fall and the weather conditions that didn't allow us to set up the bike in the best way, but I know Mika's qualities and I know that during the race he always has a bit more. He made some spectacular overtakes; he has done a great job. Niccolo has conquered his firsts points in the Championship and I am happy for him. Of course he still has to improve but we knew that he would need some races to get the right rhythm. We believe that from Jerez things will change."
Mika Kallio - Pramac Racing rider - 8th in the race - 7th in the Championship with 18 points
"I didn't have much time to prepare the bike during the weekend and I didn't expect such a good result. I was a bit confused and I took some laps to get a good rhythm. I started to catch up and overtake other riders and I was really enjoying riding. To finish the first two races in MotoGP in eighth position is a good start. We have conquered some good points for the standing and I am very happy about it, for me and for the Pramac Racing Team."
Niccolo Canepa - Pramac Racing rider - 14th in the race - 17th in the Championship with 2 points
"I am not very happy on how the race went today. At the beginning I thought it was depending from me, maybe I needed some laps to find the rhythm, but then I don't know what happened. I couldn't manage the rear part of the bike. I thought that I had some problems with the tyre, but for what we can see it looks ok. Now we will check the data to understand what happened. I concluded the race to get the points that give us morale for the next race in Jerez in seven days."
