125cc #50 Andrea "Ballero" BALLERINI
Gran Premio Cinzano d'Italia 2002
2nd June 2002

Position: 10th

What a cracking race with a superb ride from Andrea to finish in 10th place here at Mugello, just 2.255 seconds behind the race winner.

Making a good start from his 10th grid position ending the first lap in this position, well in touch with the leaders. As the race progressed Andrea moved places frequently posting he best lap the 9th quickest in the race on lap early on lap 4.

Staying the group of leaders the race was very exciting with 7 different leaders changing throughout.

By mid way distance, Andrea had found his rhythm and was staying in touch before making a charge which saw him as high as 6th position on lap 14 only for Bianco to crash out behind, but in doing so hit the rear wheel of Andrea making him sit up and forcing him to put his foot down to steady himself losing valuable time and the group in front as well as losing two places.

He then had the hard work to catch the group back up and he did so but could not manage move back in front as he had bought other riders with him and had to fight them off to the finish.

Overall, an excellent race and a move in the right direction and out first Top 10 finish of the season, increasing our points tally to 9 and a Championship position of 21st overall.

We will now continue our work to progress further up the leader board and arrive at Catalunya ready to improve.
