Rolfo closes to second in championship following progressive weekend
Mugello Italy, June 8, 2003. Roberto Rolfo finished in a fine fourth place at the Italian Grand Prix, at Mugello, today a result that carried him into second place in the World Championship points standings.
The entire team considers the fourth place a goo result by Rolfo. It could have been better but for the fright Rolfo had when he almost crashed at the mid race point following a slide at the corner at the end of the long front straight.
In general the Fortuna Honda team can take a lot of positives from the weekend because the RS250RW Honda improves with every track performance. At Mugello we could clearly see that the distance between Rolfo and his rivals is decreasing.
The Fortuna Honda team will stay on at Mugello tomorrow to continue the evolution of the Honda. Following the test the team will depart immediately for Barcelona for round six of the 16 round championship series, which takes place at the Montmelo circuit.
"I think the problem I had in the middle of the race, at the first corner at the end of the straight, nearly resulted in a crash and caused me to lose valuable time and I knew I had lost any chance of fighting for the podium." The Fortuna Honda rider said.
"Anyway, I'm very happy with the result because I'm now second in the World Championship and I'm confident we can maintain the progress we have made at Mugello over the next grands prix. Today it was possible to see that every time we race the bike we are closer to the lap times set by our main rivals. That makes me very optimistic for the immediate future." Explained the happy Italian rider.
