Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso snatched the fastest time from reigning champion Marc Marquez during a rain-soaked opening practice session at the Circuit of the Americas.
Andrea Dovizioso led the way in the first practice session for the Grand Prix of the Americas, with the Italian rider grabbing the fastest lap of 2m19.402s from Honda's Marc Marquez in the dying minutes of a rain-soaked session.
Despite a red flag halting proceedings after a dog managed to find its way onto the track, the top riders didn’t take long to move to the top of the timesheets - although third place went to the satellite Honda machine of Marc VDS rider Scott Redding, who leads Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi.
Danilo Petrucci was impressive once again on the Pramac Ducati to take fifth, while Tech 3 Yamaha rider Bradley Smith was close behind in sixth, leading his teammate Pol Espargaro.
Cal Crutchlow also had a productive session, finishing in eighth on the LCR Honda ahead of Jorge Lorenzo on the second of the factory Yamaha bikes. Rounding off the top ten was Yonny Hernandez for the Pramac Ducati team.
