Di Giannantonio reveals he reached out to Jorge Martin after horrific Qatar crash

Fabio Di Giannantonio has revealed that he reached out to Jorge Martin following the incident that took place at the Qatar MotoGP race that saw Martin suffer from several fractured ribs and a collapsed lung. While not being at fault, he felt he needed to send his support.

During his Qatar campaign, Di Giannantonio was forced to the back of the field after a clash with Alex Marquez. And when Jorge Martin crashed halfway through the race, the rider hit him despite trying his best to avoid him. 

"I sent him a message and apologized for what happened. I knew it wasn't my fault, but I made a point of giving him all my strength and wished him a speedy recovery. We wrote to each other, but I didn't want to be more intrusive than that," Di Giannantonio said ahead of the Jerez weekend.

Di Giannantonio had his own injuries to heal from after pre-season testing. A shoulder surgery in late 2024, he also broke his left collarbone during testing in Sepang. He knows a thing or two about getting back onto the track after an injury.

"Few would begrudge the 26-year-old a throbbing head to go with his aching body after his third Grand Prix podium in Texas; the VR46 Ducati rider has gone to hell and back twice for seven long months," Matt Clayton wrote for Fox Sports.

After Austin saw a podium finish for Di Giannantonio, he continued to offer impressive performance.

"We worked really well with the team during free practice," Di Giannantonio admitted. "We improved in every session, at every exit, lap after lap. We are still in a phase where we are getting to know each other better with the new team members, and we are doing the same with the bike"

The Italian is also starting to see the potential of the GP25. 

"I'm coming to this race with awareness, because we've always been strong and have a good package," he stated. "Everyone wishes to do well, and I think we can have another weekend on the attack"

With the Spanish circuit suiting his riding style, Di Giannantonio expects a good weekend.

"Jerez is a track that could enhance some of the characteristics of my riding and of the Ducati. Consequently, it could be friendly. Here, I'm really confident that we can do a good job."
