World Championship Grand Prix Rd. 6
125cc #50 Andrea "Ballero" BALLERINI
Gran Premi Marlboro de Catalunya
16th June 2002

Race Position: 12th
A reasonable race from our starting position of 19th.

Andrea made a good start and ended the first lap in 11th place, but more importantly was close to the leading pack and so it was possible we could obtain a good finish. Staying in 11th place the leaders gained a small advantage breaking away leaving Andrea in the group from 5th to 14th. Making lap times up to 0.5 seconds faster than in qualifying, Andrea could keep the pace with this group enjoying good slipstreaming down the front straight.

Mid way through the race the group broke into two groups with Andrea not making the break and slipped back to the group covering places 10th to 12th. The group was split due to an incident between De Angelis and Bianco. With the group split up the possibility of higher than 10th was now difficult.

For the last few remaining laps, the group of 3 changed places many times making an interesting race. With 2 laps to go Kallio started to slow with the group gaining making the last lap interesting with the four riders coming together. Unfortunately, we could not make the passes necessary and finished the race in 12th place.

Although another points finish, a little disappointing that we could not make the group in front and finish a little higher.
