CHECA BACK AT HOME FOR CATALUNYA GRAND PRIX
A return to Spain has Honda LCR Carlos Checa in positive mood that he can get his MotoGP season back on track at the Catalunya Grand Prix in Barcelona this Sunday (June 10). Checa is hoping that he can reverse his recent misfortune which has seen him fail to finish both the French and Italian GPs.
Checa will have the support of friends and fans at the challenging 4.7 km Montmelo circuit for round seven of the MotoGP World Championship. He is planning a detailed meeting with crew chief Ramon Forcada in a bid to return to top form aboard his Honda RC212V. Checa would like nothing better than a repeat of his 1996 victory in the Catalunya GP when he won on a Honda NSR500.
And the 250cc GP at Barcelona will be a pleasant change for young Irish rider Eugene Laverty who will have the benefit of advance circuit knowledge having previously raced at Montmelo.
CHECA: "As usual many of my friends and fans will be at this race but my approach will be the same as for every other GP. My focus here must be to try and understand why we are not able to perform at the level that I expect, and I will sit down and talk with Ramon about our set-up options. Hopefully this weekend we will have good weather, unlike France and Italy, to allow us time to evaluate the our Honda set-up and tyres in dry conditions. The past two races have been disappointing and I want to move on with some more positive results."
LAVERTY: "Racing at Montmelo will be something different, at least I know the track from my 125cc races there and also the test session earlier this year with the LCR team. I?m hoping for good weather so that we have a chance to improve our dry track set-up, that is what we need to work on."
