125cc #50 Andrea "Ballero" Ballerini
Cinzano British Grand Prix
14th July 2002
A huge disappointment! After the good qualifying position we had hope of scoring another Top 10 result.
Making a reasonable start Andrea kept his 8th position into the first corner and then managed to keep this position until midway through the first lap until other riders were more aggressive than he was and moved him back to end the first lap in 12th position. The next two laps were also bad as Andrea was not aggressive enough and slipped back and on lap 4 was caught in the incident with Barbera and Talmasci having to put his foot down and slow. This lost him more time and was 14th at the end of the 4th lap. Keeping this position for most of the race picking up a place as Kallio and then Cecchinello went out. He was followed by Perugini for the latter half of the race and lost the position to him on the penultimate lap leaving him to finish in 12th position.
Although another finish and more points, we need a higher points scoring position to move up the championship closer to our aim of a Top 10 overall position at the season end. We move on immediately to Sachsenring in Germany this coming weekend and then we have the four-week summer break.
