Gibernau has qualified 7th for the first day of practice in Rio. Brazilian weather was as unpredictable as ever today, with rain replacing sunshine half-way through the morning practice. Okada took the 2nd fastest spot in the Repsol YPF Honda team with provisional 11th place. World champion Crivilli crashed during the final moments of the qualifying practice and could therefore do no better than 13th time.

SETE GIBERNAU - 7th - 1'53.004

"Today's gone well. I was running in the top group by mid session. The most important thing is that I was able to string together a good number of consistent laps. I'm very happy with the set-up of the bike. It feels very good. Having started this good, we now need to build on that tomorrow. I will be focusing on improving my lap times because I expect Saturday's race will be long and tough".

TADY OKADA - 11th - 1'53.378

"My feeling here is really very good. I'm optimistic about our potential for this Saturday's race after today's practice. We didn't use qualifiers at the end of the session like so many of the others did. We just stuck to our race tyres. We'll use the qualifies in tomorrow's final qualifying session to make sure we keep a good position but today, it was much more important to concentrate on getting ready for the race. I was around 5th or 6th ten minutes before the end of the session, when everyone started using the qualifiers. That's good. I think we can improve our set-up tomorrow and go for a good result on Saturday".

ALEX CRIVILL I - 13th - 1'53.581

"I'm okay. I bruised the little finger on my left hand, that's all. The bad news is that this is the hand I've already hurt quite a few times but apart from that, there's not much to say. I spent the whole session working on the bike and at the end of the session, I started to push hard to improve my times and that's when I lost the front and I crashed. The track still wasn't completely dry during the first part of the session so I didn't want to push too hard. But the track was dry at the end of the session. I hope the finger won't be any problem for me tomorrow so that I can improve my position".
