Barcelona MotoGP: Folger tops warm-up, Marquez falls again

Folger, who was the fastest Yamaha in qualifying in eighth, set his benchmark of 1m45.004s at the halfway point of the session.

He demoted Pramac Ducati's Scott Redding with that time, with the top two not being beaten for the rest of the session.

Aleix Espargaro, who claimed Aprilia's best starting position with a fifth place in qualifying, was third ahead of the top Honda of Jack Miller (Marc VDS).

Folger's Tech 3 teammate Johann Zarco was two thousandths of a second behind Miller in fifth, followed by Mugello winner Andrea Dovizioso.

Valentino Rossi, who will start the Catalan Grand Prix only 13th, was seventh in warm-up, the last rider to be less than a second behind Folger.

The Pramac Ducati GP17 of Danilo Petrucci, Suzuki's Andrea Iannone and Marc Marquez completed the top 10.

Marquez added a fifth crash to his tally this weekend in the dying stages of the 20-minute session, sliding off track at Turn 14, the left-hander of the final chicane.

He was just ahead of points leader Maverick Vinales, who ran wide at Turn 1 early in the session when Rossi went alongside him, the Spaniard looking frustrated with his teammate.

Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo, who will start the race first and second, were 13th and 15th respectively.

Suzuki's Sylvain Guintoli, who was unfit to take part in qualifying, was 17th, two places ahead of the sole KTM of Pol Espargaro after his teammate Bradley Smith withdrew due to a finger injury.
