Alex Hofmann parts ways with KTM amid brand's financial overhaul

Alex Hofmann has become the latest high-profile exit from KTM.

Former MotoGP rider Alex Hofmann has confirmed his leaving from KTM as a brand ambassador. This comes amid the financial crisis the manufacturer has been wading through since last year.

Hofmann competed in MotoGP between 2003 and 2007, riding both Kawasaki and Ducati machinery before making the leap to KTM. He became a test rider for the brand, and his technical feedback and experience was important to shaping the early years of its time in the sport. Hofmann also became a brand ambassador over the same period.

After being forced into self-administration in November 2024, KTM has been struggling with its finances as its debts pile over €2 billion. In fact, it became so detrimental that KTM's Mattighofen factory stopped production temporarily. This allowed the organisation to manage stock and get a hold on their costs.

In the following February of 2025, KTM's creditors approved a restructuring plan.

“This plan provides for creditors to receive a cash quota of 30% of their claims in the form of a one-off payment (cash quota),” a statement from Pierer Mobility AG read.

“In order to fulfil the quota of 30%, KTM AG must deposit an amount of EUR 548 million with the restructuring administrator by 23 May 2025 at the latest.

“The court will then confirm the restructuring plan at the beginning of June 2025 and the restructuring proceedings of KTM AG will end once it becomes legally binding.”

Talking to SPEEDWEEK.com, Hofmann said the following on his contract coming to an end.

"It's true – there was a close connection through my role as brand ambassador. This agreement expires in 2025. It's one of the many measures KTM had to take to restore stability. It was a very good time together, but it's understandable how things are going now."

Following the news, the former rider also posted to social media, announcing his departure to his followers.

"So bye for now my orange family! We had a blast and won’t stop having fun together on the race tracks of this planet. Thanks."

Hofmann isn't the only figure leaving his role. Grand Prix winner Jeremy McWilliams will also be saying goodbye to the team, leaving his role as a development rider.
