GIBERNAU HEADS REPSOL HONDA SQUAD
Sete Gibernau set the fastest time of his Repsol YPF Honda team today, but his team-mates Tadayuki Okada and Alex Crivillé were just behind him. Gibernau took seventh fastest with Okada eight and Crivillé ninth. All three Repsol YPF Honda riders also placed well in the morning free session, where Alex Crivillé took the second overall fastest time with Gibernau third and Okada sixth.
SETE GIBERNAU 7th - 2'04.589
"We're doing better. We're definitely going in the right direction now. But now that I've closed the gap with the top men a little I want to go even faster. We spent a lot of the session working on the front fork settings. That cost us quite a lot of time but I'm happy because even though we spent so much time working on that, we were still close to the fastest times. It was a complicated session because of the weather and I didn¹t want to push too much and take stupid risks. But for sure, I'm starting to feel comfortable on the bike again".
TADAYUKI OKADA 8th - 2'04.638
"If I was able to get a good level of grip and traction then I think I could have been very fast, but I just can't seem to find the grip I need. It's strange because once again, our problems seemed to disappear when we tested. We had a test session after the Barcelona Grand Prix and I really felt we¹d solved most of our problems there. In fact, I still feel the bike is continuing to improve. But at the test, I really thought we'd cured all our problems so I'm disappointed to come here and find that some of those problems are still very much with us".
ALEX CRIVILLÉ 9th - 2'04.816
"We've been testing some new parts from Japan. I have a new fairing for this round which features a front air scoop. But with the weather being what it was this afternoon I didn't have enough time to work on the fairing properly. I didn't want to push too hard because the track condition wasn't all that great and I wasn't about to risk a crash on the first day of practice. I felt really good on the bike this morning. But of course, because of the weather conditions, we rode a second slower this afternoon. We've been testing the 16.5 front tyre and I like it, but I still want to spend some more time with it".
