Yuki Takahashi on second row after first qualifying at Sepang
Under cloudy Sepang weather the first day of practice for Yuki Takahashi has ended positively with a temporary second row on the starting grid of the Malaysian Grand Prix. After using the free practice of the morning to choose the direction to work in, the JiR Team Scot rider improved his performance finishing with the seventh-best lap time. The team did intensive work on the set-up of the chassis and tomorrow the focus will be on other adjustments and the choice of tyres. Yuki is confident that the second day of qualifying could end tomorrow with a good result for him and the team.
Gianni Berti - Technical Coordinator - JiR Team Scot
"That was a positive day of practice that has seen Yuki up there in qualifying, always in the top ten of the rankings with a good improvement from the morning. The team has worked very well using at best the data recorded in free practice this morning. Free practice was conditioned with the grip available on the track, which was not optimal. Tomorrow we will continue the set-up with the aim of improving the performance in qualifying."
Yuki Takahashi - Rider - JiR Team Scot 250cc
7th-best time: 2' 07.858"
"I am very satisfied by today's result because I did my best lap riding alone and not with other riders. This morning I tried to focus on the track during practice, as I wanted to build confidence on this circuit that I don't like very much. During the afternoon session I wanted to keep with Alvaro Bautista, but I was put off by other riders and it was impossible to improve my best lap time. The team worked very well and worked hard on the set-up of the chassis and tomorrow we will complete the set-up looking towards the race. Today I did a good rhythm and tomorrow if it doesn't rain in the afternoon I would like to get a better position on the starting grid."
Yutaka Hirano - Head Technician - JiR Team Scot
"Today we concentrated on set-up of the suspension making constant improvement and tomorrow we have a programme with the other work so Yuki can improve his starting position. We have already chosen the tyres that we will use for the second day of practice and also for the race if the weather will be the same. We will continue to work in this direction."
