With many fans in the area for the Winston Cup event and the return of the A.R.D.C. Midgets to the track, the weekly faithful were joined by many new fans that filled the grandstand. Brian Gallucci, a crewmember for Mark Martin was even behind the wheel of Modified Feature winner John Markovic's back up Modified. Everyone was treated to a great night of racing and there was still a buzz in the air as the fans were leaving for the evening.
Jim Buzinski of Slatington started the Factory Stock Feature last and by lap three was in second place. Buzinski and Mark Dispirito battled for the next 10 laps with Buzinski making an inside move on the white flag lap to take the checkered flag for the second week in a row. However following a post race inspection the finish order was Steve Distler winning followed by Paul Monkoski.
Phil Di Mario won the 25 lap A.R.D.C. Midget Feature Race. The race ran from green to checker as the midget put on a show of speed as they challenged the 1/3 of a mile asphalt track.
Bruce Long of Hunlock Creek, PA made his way back into victory lane after mechanical failures last week. Chris Burge paced the Street Stock field early and gave Long a battle as they raced side by side for a few laps then Rich Spaide joined in making it a three car race. Caution flags flew when Chris Burge and Donny Hartzell got together, ending Burge's early race hopes. Hartzell rebounded to finish third behind Bruce Long and Rich Spaide.
John Markovic of Bethlehem, PA who has raced everywhere that Modifieds race and has visited victory lane many times throughout his career got his first win of the year. It was not an easy win. First, as he was running third the front two got together sending Barry Baran spinning in front of him. John was in the right spot at the right time to get past the spinning Modified then Eric Beers who started 14th made his way up to second by lap 20 tried to pass Markovic inside and outside for the last 10 laps. The race went green for the first 27 laps setting up a three-lap shootout. Many times Beers went so high it looked like he was using the outside guardrail as a cushion to catapult him around the #95 of Markovic, but John held his line and pulled off a well deserved victory. Markovic and Beers were followed to the line by Cal Snyder, Russ Frantz and the new Mr. Consistency, Mike Adams. Great side by side action throughout the night for the modifieds as the heats and the consi was some of the best racing seen at the New Pocono Mountain Speedway this year.
Nobody had enough in their arsenal tonight for young gun Barry Gommer of Hunlock Creek, PA. Gommer started the Late Model race fourth and was in the lead by lap 3. The heartbreak of the race was on lap 6 when 2nd place runner Larry Fisher who looked to have a car just as fast as Gommer was involved with the third place runner Mike Radocha also collecting the 22 car of Dean Kline. Following the cleanup Gommer pulled away from the field building a strait away lead and at one point a half of a track lead. A late caution bunched the field back together giving Doug Yanders, Barry Callavini and Paul Koehler, Jr. a shot at the kid. While it was close no one had enough and Gommer pulled off the victory, Yanders finished 2nd followed by Barry Callavini, Paul Koehler, Jr. and Barry Christman.
