DON'T BURY THEM YET! - Open Wheel Magazine writer Bill Holder got up and proclaimed that rumors regarding the demise of Open Wheel and Stock Car racing are NOT TRUE. The magazines were sold by Bob Guchione to Peterson Publishing and there will be no interruption in issues. Peterson is said to be offering bargain subscription rates to introduce their acquisitions so keep eyes open for that deal.

WINCHESTER SPEEDWAY - New promoter and general manager Homer Milligan presented his 'specials only' schedule of approximately 23 dates. Homer has added former USAC and Indy 500 veteran Tom Bigelow to his management staff. Winchester has dropped its affiliation with NASCAR in returning to a specials format. All the 'name, brands will be seen there - NAMARS, USAC, ARCA,KILM (Kendall Indiana Late Model Series), SOD, ARCA, and American Race Trucks. Call Homer at the same old track number 765/584- 9701 for your copy of the schedule.

NOW THERE'S A BULL RING! - Tony Boetcher runs the neatest little 1/5 mile dirt track in all the midwest down on US Rte 35 at Frankfort. You have to think small down there 'cause he specializes in micro-sprints, mini-sprints, dwarfs, and 4-Cyl Stock Cars. Tony owns everything but the land at 35 Raceway Park. Wish he'd pick it all up and move it to Clermont. Schedules at 614/276-4122.

ARCA - Ron Drager's Toledo sanctioning body is covering racing like dew on Dixie with Super Stocks (that's short for ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Super Car Series/(say that fast and your teeth rattle), midgets, trucks, figure 8's, plus this group owns and runs both Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways . Call them at 734/847-6726 for schedules and to see what else they're doing. No threat to NASCAR though, says spokesman Jim Clarke.

WILLOWDELL - Another little track that sits over in western Ohio not far from Eldora is Willowdell. They run weekly on Saturday nights and are growing

Nicely every year. Call 937/773-5729 and ask for Doc.

16TH STREET - Come to 16th Street July 6 - 10 for their Summer Sizzle midget spectacular or you might miss it all. They only have 10 other races so you'll need their schedule from 317/955-5000. The sizzle has a practice on July 6, followed by four straight nights of racing, the last of which is all features.

WINCHESTER 400 - The longest and most prestigious stock car race in Indiana outside the Brickyard has been the annual September marathon on the hills of Winchester Speedway. This great race, initiated in 1970 by Roger Holdeman, Ed Friddle, and Rex Robbins, has run every year since. Run under ASA supervision, the race went to NASCAR All-Pro several years ago but never approached the status it had under ASA. This year, the Winchester 400 returns to its grassroots when the Kendall Indiana Late Model Series takes over the reins. According to Winchester general manager Homer Milligan, any 'left hander' chassis will be able to compete and this will open the event to drivers from All Pro Slim Jim, Iceman, Remax and others. The cars are very similar to Winston Cup but weigh in 800 lb lighter.

ASA & WINCHESTER - ASA may return to Winchester but not this year, according to Homer Milligan in a conversation at DARF. Milligan gave no indication that ASA might return to the Winchester 400, in fact it appears that ASA may be looking to a return to the historic Randolph County track with a completely new race in 2000.
