Championship battles go into overdrive at Speedrome

With summer in full swing the racers at the Indianapolis Speedrome head down the home stretch in their division points battles. From the polished professionals of the open wheels to the hometown heroes of the Hornets racers from throughout Hoosierland gather on Indy's East Side in their search for the champion's laurels.

It all kicks off this Thursday evening when the NAMARS Midgets and Kenyon Cars return for open wheel action. Southport's Adam Nuetzel has taken the lead in the Speedrome Regional Championship jumping ahead of Crawfordsville's lady ace Sondi Eden. Indy's Sean Smith and Cincinnati's Jerry Frickman stay in striking distance. Noblesville's Bryan Clauson leads the young pilots of the Kenyon Car division over Columbus, IN's, Jamie Williams. Both divisions go for a set heat races and a fifty lap feature with the gates open at 5PM.

Billy George is your points leader in his bid for a fourth All-Phase Landscaping SuperModified series championship but the dynamic duo of Johnny and Charlie Hargraves are making this years championship a struggle for Billy. Rob McCalister Sr.'s win last week launched him into the champ battle to keep all three on their toes. Look for the Supers this Friday along with the Chuck's Race Car Parts Outlaw Stocks, Sunshine Cafe Roadrunners, Bomber Figure-8 cars and Speedrome Hornets. Practice starts at 5PM with the first race at 7PM.

Bruce Tunny's win in Saturday's 122-Lap Sonny Thompson Memorial Race moved the former champ back into the fray for the Red Line Graphics Late Model crown behind past king Rodney Sizemore and the points leader, crownless veteran R.J. Norton, Jr. Another former champ Bobby Douthitt has also been coming on strong with a pair of cars to dodge the evil DNF's. Watch for the Late Models in oval and Figure-8 action this Saturday night starting with the 6PM qualification session.

Three classes double up on Friday and Saturday with Kerry Wright still the top dog in the Chuck's Race Car Parts Outlaw Stocks despite Jimmy Kirby's consistent trips to the Winner's Circle. Robert Buskirk sits precariously atop the Sunshine Cafe Roadrunner standings and Michael George continues to see his competition drop off the radar with only Robert Hurt making any noise in the field. Friday's Bomber Figure-8 class shows Barry Tabor keeping his head and his points lead at the top of the chart.

Saturday night sees the return of the Pepsi Kids Bicycle Races with the 10 & 11 year-olds getting their time on the asphalt. All parents are reminded that a legal guardian must be on hand to register their child and a helmet and knee and elbow protection are mandatory.
