Mark Hodges took a heat and final win at Bovingdon on Sunday 29th June, having spent the whole of the week previous to the meeting rebuilding his car after a crash at Buxton.
Heat one was won by Mark Hodges, who virtually had the race handed to him after a quick start from the blues and with Steve Terry and Dave Smith retiring early on. Steve Terry, the only white grade driver was unable to cure his engine gremlins and did not make any other races. Gordon Pooley was also going well to take 2nd, and John Salter drove an excellent race to finish third after numerous attempts by red graders to pass him. The top three were followed over the line by Peter Bourne, Andy Hinch, Gary Bonner, and Alan Buckland with Harold Lowe rounding off the top eight.
The second heat was won by Dave Smith, after Mark Hodges who had looked set to take the win, encountered difficulties with his fuel pump switch!!!! Heat two also saw the retirement of Alan Buckland after he clipped the back of Peter Bourne's spinning Arrow with his Stealth. John Salter retired after breaking a drive shaft, but managed to keep all four wheels on his Starcraft this time!! Dave Smith was followed over the line by Gordon Pooley, Andy Hinch, Harold Lowe, Neil Clarke, Mark Hodges, Andrew Bilby and Daz Rycroft, who round off the point's finishers.
Mark Hodges took an excellent win in the final after his earlier fuel pump problems! Gordon Pooley put Mark under considerable pressure for the lead early in the race, however two spins put him out of contention. Andy Hinch was able to round off a consistently good meeting with 2nd place after Gary Bonner spun on the last corner, followed by Harold Lowe, Andrew Bilby, and Daz Rycroft, with Gary Bonner recovering to finish in 6th rounding off the only finishers.
