BEAVER DAM, WI---For the fourth time in Badger Midget Auto Racing Association(BMARA) history, the Raceway at PowerCom Park will host the series opening event of the season, this Saturday Night May 4. Also appearing with Badger will be the INEX Legends, and Karavan Trailer Dirt Devils.
This season will mark the 66th year of sanctioning midget auto racing by Badger, the oldest active organization in the country. Winners of previous season openers at the facility include: Kevin Doty(1994), Randy Koch (1995), and Dan Boorse (1996). It will be the 32nd midget race sanctioned by Badger since the track reopened in 1993.
Defending series champion Boorse leads the field of entries for the event as he attempts to win a his eighth Badger title, a mark that would tie him with Billy Wood. Past Badger champions Kevin Doty, Scott Hatton, and last year's runner-up Davey Ray head the list of contenders for the title. Badger will sanction twenty two events at six tracks in WI, IL, and IA this season.
A strong field of Badger regulars along with several drivers competing in the May 3 USAC Doubleheader Event at Cedar Rapids, IA are excepted to compete including 2001 National Midget Driver of the Year Tracy Hines, a winner of three Badger events, last season. Hines who has won two USAC Sprint car features this season will drive the Wilke/PAK-Stealth/Sesco-Mopar.
Hatton, and Brandon Waelti were victorious in the two events last year, and Doty leads all drivers with nine feature wins at the facility. Practice is slated for 4:45 pm , with qualifying to follow, and the first race at 6:30. For further information contact the track at: (920)-887-1600.
