Hines Wins Pepsi Nationals Boorse Wins Badger Championship
SUN PRAIRIE, WI, September 2-----Tracy Hines continued his hot streak by capturing the 20th annual Pepsi Midget Nationals, Badger Midget Series Event, Sunday Night at Angell Park Speedway. Dan Boorse clinched his seventh career Badger Midget driving title, by placing third, the finish also gave Don Boorse the car owners title, his fourth career.
As the field was lining up for the pace laps, polesitter Chad DeSelle suffered a brake failure,causing him to hit the inside wall. Scott Hatton jumped into the lead at the start, closely followed by Boorse, and Hines. The caution appeared on the 12th lap for a stalled car, on the restart Teddy Beach flipped, escaping injury. Hines took the lead on the restart from Hatton, with Boorse moving into second. Davey Ray's title hopes ended when he flipped on the eighteenth lap, Ray was ok, and finished second in series points. Drake moved around Boorse for second on the 21stlap, and trailed his teamate Hines by two seconds at the midway point.
Hines's three second plus lead was erased for a stalled car, and a Travis Miniea flip between laps 33-37. Miniea escaped injury in the incident. Drake closed up on Hines on the restart for a few laps, before Hines pulled away, finishing 1.89 seconds ahead of Drake, both drivers drove Wilke-PAK/Stealth/Fontana enteries. Boorse finished third, with Mike Hess leading a tight pack of cars, finishing fourth, and Hatton fifth.
Rick Mueller was involved in a spectular crash at the start of the B-main which saw damage done to the frontstretch fence. Mueller escaped unharmed. Boorse finished 120 points ahead of Ray. Badger runs a non-point event this Sunday afternoon September 9, at the Raceway at Powercom Park(Beaver Dam, WI), the event will be co-sanctioned by MARA.
