Fike laps field on way to third straight Badger Midget win.
SUN PRAIRIE, WI, May 26---Aaron Fike scored a one lap victory, Sunday Night, winning the 50-lap Miller Genuine Draft Memorial, Badger Midget Series feature, at Angell Park Speedway.
Critter Malone jumped into the lead at the start of the event, on the sixth lap Fike moved into fourth place, after starting eleventh. Davey Ray passed Malone for the lead exiting turn four on the eighth circuit, with Fike moving into second one lap later.
Ron Fredenberg flipped on the 13th lap halting action, he was uninjuried. On the restart Ray, Fike fast qualifier Dan Boorse, and Chad DeSelle pulled away from the field. At the midway point Ray lapped up to the eighth place car and held a four car length lead over Fike.
A caution for debris appeared on the 32nd lap, with only Ray, Fike, DeSelle, and Boorse on the lead lap. The events turning point took place on the restart. Boorse blew an oil filter and retired, and at the same time Ray suffered an electrical problem causing him to slow, and also retire from the event.
Fike, set a blistering pace for the remainder of the event, with De Selle the only remaining car on the lead lap. De Selle slowed in the final laps with mechanical problems, and was lapped by Fike with two laps remaining. Second year driver Johnny Komppa finished second a career best finish, with DeSelle, Quinn McCabe, and Aaron Fiscus rounding out the top five. Fike drove the Les & Greg Nelson owned Stealth/Sesco-Mopar to the victory.
