Heydenreich Battles Kobylarz For First ARDC Win At Lincoln

Abbotstown, Pa.--- John Heydenreich fought with Bryan Kobylarz of Birdsboro, Pa. for 23 laps until he wrestled the lead away from Kobylarz for good with just two laps left in the ARDC CARQUEST Midget feature at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night.

Heydenreich, who now resides in Indianapolis where he is pursuing a full time racing career, flew into Pennsylvania to drive for John Givens on Saturday night.

Heydenreich started on the pole and Kobylarz lined up in the sixth position. It didn't take long for the lead swapping to begin. A red flag on lap two for a five car incident in turn one stopped the action once and then again on lap eight when Fred Schell rolled over in his No.57.

After the Schell incident, it was non-stop racing and the Heydenreich/Kobylarz show was on. The two drivers exchanged the lead five times before the more experienced Heydenreich made the final pass.

John Heydenreich has won many Midget features but he explained why this one was so special. "This was my first win at Lincoln Speedway. I have seven second place finishes and a third place finish here. Bryan Kobylarz drove a great race and we got lucky in lapped traffic."

Kobylarz talked about how he felt, racing the veteran Heydenreich for the win. " John is a great driver. After the race he told me where I messed up. I should have followed those lapped cars through the turns. I knew we had a good car in the heat race. I guess with two laps to go, I blew it. I was really expecting to see Tim Dietz or Mark Freeland coming up to the front."

Heydenreich and Kobylarz finished first and second with 1997 ARDC CARQUEST Champion, Ed Stimely Jr. taking third. Ray Bull and Lew Blair completed the top five. Monnie Wonder III received the Pennzoil award, finishing 14th.

The ARDC CARQUEST Midget Series will be at Port Royal Speedway on April 25, Williams Grove Speedway on May 8, Flemington Speedway on May 9 for ARDC Fan Appreciation Day and on May 16 at New Egypt Speedway.
