What are you doing this weekend? Le Mans!

It's Le Mans weekend folks!

I don't know what you are doing this weekend, but I will be following along with what can only be considered the worlds greatest spectacle in racing.

I know that we have the NASCAR Sprint Cup guys (and gals) running left and right turns this weekend in Sonoma, the Nationwide teams doing the same at Road America. We even have IndyCar running a confusing weekend in Iowa. That's not mentioning the World Rally Championship taking on the twisty roads of Sardinia, World Series by Renault in Moscow, British Touring Cars in Croft and even the dragsters in New Hampshire…but my focus will be in one place…France.

In relative terms, I am rather new to motorsports. I picked up the bug, and was told my doctor there was no cure in 2003. That makes ten years. But if any of you are like me, ten years has been a lifetime.

My love started in stock car racing. Then came IndyCar. Then this little thing called the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

That race was the 2005 edition, where the Audi R8 car was restricted for being older, and non-conforming to the hybrid rules. Who doesn't like seeing Tom Kristensen win at the Circuit de la Sarthe.

The next year were the diesels…then came the Audi-Peugeot rivalry. Now we have Toyota-Audi going at it, with an whole host of new prototypes coming in the next couple years.

Thats just talking about the Prototypes. I have a love of Corvette race cars. They are incredibly beautiful and the best challenger from North America in Le Mans.

This race is the biggest test of man and machine. It is full of history. I recently finished reading 'Go Like Hell,' a great book on the Ford-Ferrari rivalry. If you have never been to a 24 hour event, I urge you to go. I have never covered Le Mans on site, but was at the 24 Hours of Daytona this past year and the experience is exhilarating. Like most of us, going to an event like Le Mans is something that will be a once in a lifetime type deal, unless of course we win the lottery, or get hired to run a Corvette in the race (Hey, I can dream.)

Motorsport.com will have around the clock coverage, giving viewers a great look at the stories of the race, reports on incidents and incremental race updates. I personally, will be watching whatever feed is available in my auto racing deprived nation of Canada, and be working hard to deliver the news. I hope you all enjoy the weekend, the race.
