The Belgian will partner team regulars Oswaldo Negri and John Pew, both of whom will be making their debuts at La Sarthe, behind the wheel of a Honda-powered Ligier JS P2.
While best known for his GT3 exploits with Audi, Vanthoor is no stranger to Ligier machinery, having partnered Chris Cumming and Kevin Estre in an OAK Racing-run JS P2 last year. The trio failed to make the finish.
Michael Shank Racing is one of two IMSA teams to have been granted an automatic invite to the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours by the ACO, along with Ferrari GT squad Scuderia Corsa.
The Ohio-based team has chosen to lease a Ligier from Onroak Automotive for the French endurance classic, in order to not have to ship over its existing IMSA machine from the United States.
