What everyone is at Le Mans for.
As always, the 24 Hours of Le Mans kicked off with the Saturday warmup. Above, you'll see the car that would end up winning the race a little bit over a day later.
Gene: "No joke, they just told me right there that they'd like me to drive the No. 1 Audi! I just glanced over at the JOTA guys and then bolted out of there! haha" Fernando to himself: "I wonder if they'd just put me in the car if something 'unfortunate' were to happen to Marc?"
Man, I just love the openness of those LMP2 cars. If you look closely, you can almost see everything.

The formation lap gets underway. One of those Audis will crash out early, a second will enjoy the thrill of victory, and the other will carry three drivers left thinking what could have been as they stand on the second step of the podium.

Here come the GTE Pro cars!
The entire LMP1 field races off into the first corners of this grueling, 24 hour race. Four of these nine prototypes will never cross the finish line Sunday afternoon.

This is actually a fan photo...I'm fairly certain those belong to the Nissan ZEOD. That or one of the Audi prototypes; it's hard to tell really.
This will be the final photo of the Nissan ZEOD that I show you. Why? Well, because it never made it past the 30 minute mark of the event....

Jumping curbs in my Porsche at the start of a 24 hour race because, why not?
Two prototypes race under the Dunlop Bridge.
The first pit stop for this nice-looking ProSpeed Porsche. Their race later ended when a door literally just fell off in the pit lane, promptly followed by the left-rear wheel when it returned to the track. That's Le Mans for ya.
Product placement gone too far? And wait a minute, wouldn't you want to get your name out in front of the camera instead of on top of it?
One of the saddest sights you'll see at Le Mans. When that door closes, a team's bid at Le Mans glory has officially ended.
Thanks for destroying the #3 Audi and #8 Toyota, we really appreciated that in the second hour of the race. Jerk.
The #41 car is being so courteous bringing the front of the #48 to the pits so he can give it back to the Murphy team. Don't see it? Look here...

The beaten up and dirt-covered #74 Corvette survived the brutal night hours, but would encounter some major issues on Sunday that would put them out of contention for the GTE Pro victory.

Let the champagne fly! Fun fact: did you know that the worldwide tradition of spraying champagne was started by Dan Gurney after the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans? Oh, you did? I'll shut up then.
