PlayStation Team ORECA in good shape for a long night!

Saturday 15th June at 10 pm Saturday evening -- PlayStation Team ORECA completed the first quarter of the 70th anniversary Le Mans 24-Hours without any problems, the #14 Dallara Judd driven by Stephane Sarrazin, Franck Montagny and Nicolas Minassian comfortably in 6th place overall, the #15 Dallara Judd of Olivier Beretta, Eric Comas and Pedro Lamy in 8th position.

The Equipe de France FFSA backed PlayStation Team ORECA Chrysler Viper GTS-R/T meanwhile holds 22nd position, and fifth in the GTS category, in the hands of Jean-Philippe Belloc, Jonathan Cochet and Benoit Treluyer, again with no delays and running at a strictly regulated pace.

Hugues de Chaunac, Team ORECA principal, says that the Dallara drivers were instructed to run at a conservative speed to begin with. "The Viper is fine, but the drivers are suffering from the heat and it has not been possible for them to double-stint, although the Chrysler's interior will be more comfortable in the night."

Olivier Beretta lost a little time when he missed his braking point and had to steer through the first chicane on the Mulsanne Straight. "The track is very oily, and a lot of drivers have had spins and put stones on the track. There is a clear line, but it is very difficult for overtaking and we have to be extra careful all the time."

Franck Montagny recalls that last year his Dallara broke at three o'clock in the morning, but this time he feels more comfortable. "At the speed we are racing, I really do not anticipate any problems" he observed. "To me, the car feels good for 24 hours, but ask me again in the morning!"

Jean-Philippe Belloc developed an unusual driving style in the FFSA PlayStation Team ORECA Chrysler Viper, as his feet overheated behind the 8-litre, 10-cylinder engine. "The clutch is very heavy in this car and I had so much trouble with my right foot that I used my left foot to push the accelerator, on the straights in sixth gear!"
