Sports car pilot Stefan Mucke starts on position 8 at the 24 hours of Le Mans - Fastest Petrol car after seven Diesel cars - "Good setup for the race"
Berlin/Le Mans (rol/ot) The first goal has been reached: German sports car pilot Stefan Mucke starts on position 8 at the 24 hour race of Le Mans on Saturday (12th of June/3:00 pm) being the fastest Petrol car. At the biggest, most famous and hardest car racing event of the world, that is held at north western France for the 78th time, the Aston Martin works driver (first adoption in 2007 being the first and till now the only Berlin driver) is sharing the cockpit of the closed LMP1-Sports car prototype Lola Aston Martin with starting number 007 with his works driver colleagues Adrian Fernandez (Mexico) and Harold Primat (Switzerland). After the last of the three qualifyings the night to Friday (11th of June) the only cars ahead to the Berlin and his combatants were the Diesel works cars from Peugeot (positions one to four) and Audi (positions five to seven).
"I'm very happy that we have reached our aimed goal to be the fastest Petrol car already at the qualifying. Now we also want to claim this position. I think we found a very good setup for this race", told Stefan Mucke. "Besides that everything went like we expected: The Diesel cars are clearly predominated. But the race is quite long and we will see what happens. On Sunday afternoon things will be cleared". On the drying track on Thursday evening (10th of June) the Berlin didn't put on a high risk at the two qualifying sessions. But rather he and his Aston Martin racing team could work a lot on the adjustments of the car.
Last year Stefan Mucke celebrated his so far biggest success on the about 13.6 km long track. He crossed the finish line on a sensational position 4 being the fastest Petrol car and best German driver between the peloton of 55 cars. He was driving the fastest Petrol car lap time the third year in a row. The Berlin already caused furor in 2007 being the best Rookie on LMP1 position five (altogether rank 8) and in 2008 being altogether on position nine after a great catch up race.
Stefan Mucke, that is driving as Aston Martin works driver at the FIA GT1 World Championship this season as well, already has been on two podium positions in spring of 2010 in the closed LMP1 sports car prototype together with Adrian Fernandez and Harold Primat. At the prelude of the Le Mans Series (LMS) at the 8 hour race of Le Castellet (11th of April) he has been on position two as well as third earlier at the 12 hour race of Sebring/USA (21st of March) at the American Le Mans Series (ALMS).
