QUIFEL-ASM Team aims for podium in Le Mans Series
16th February, 2009 - "Within the LMP2 class, the aim is to attack the podium on all the racetracks and, for the first time put a Portuguese team on the podium at the Le Mans 24 Hours," these were the word of Gentleman Driver of the Quifel ASM Team, Miguel Pais do Amaral at the official presentation of the Quifel ASM Team this morning at the Estoril Autodrome, Portugal.
The QUIFEL-ASM Team, which will compete in the LMP2 class, is the only Portuguese team taking part in the Le Mans Series championship, which provides access to the Le Mans 24 Hour race. The first race is scheduled for 4th April on the Catalonia circuit in Barcelona and the Quifel ASM Team is optimistic about its performance.
The team's presentation took place today and was attended by drivers Miguel Pais do Amaral and Olivier Pla, and the team's director Antonio Simões. The event also served to officially present the Ginnetta-Zytek 09s, the Quifel ASM Team's new single-seat car bought this year to replace the Lola B04/AER.
According to the team's director, Antonio Simões, "The change of car will certainly make the team more competitive in a championship where excellence and precision are the watchwords. The Lola B04/AER brought significant success to the Quifel ASM Team, especially when we won several Le Mans Series races in our class in 2006, and for the first time last year we earned a 4th place in the LMP2, in the Le Mans 24 Hours."
Olivier Pla, the driver representing the Quifel ASM Team, said that, "the first impressions of the Ginneta-Zytek 09s are quite positive. It is a car that will give us confidence to go onto the tracks and try to reach the first places in the LMP2 class. I believe that the other teams will also be well-prepared for this year, however, the Ginnetta-Zytek 09s makes us believe that we can be successful," the French driver concluded.
The first official tests are scheduled for 8th and 9th March at Paul Ricard Circuit, France.
