Jan Charouz took part in the world’s most famous endurance race 24h Le Mans for the sixth time. Together with John Martin and Tor Graves drove for ADR-Delta team and finished sixth in the LMP2 class. The Czech driver set the fastest race lap of the class.
Jubilee 80th edition of the 24 hours Le Mans race started at 3pm on Saturday. Team had a pole position of the LMP2 class and the race started John Martin. The Australian handed the car over to Jan Charouz after more than two hours LMP2 only in 11th place. The Czech driver reduced the gap over three stints and handed it over to Tor Graves in 5th place.
John Martin lost quite a big chunk of time before midnight due to technical problems and the Czech driver climbed back behind the wheel in 12th position of the LMP2 class. Charouz moved up to 9th before 2am. Also Tor Graves climbed the order and finished his stint in seventh position.
John Martin’s turn was again in 4:30am and afterwards handed Oreca-Nissan back to Jan Charouz in very early morning. The Czech driver was putting in one fast lap after another. The best lap of the Czech was 3:38,803 and it turned out to be the fastest lap of the race among LMP2 class. Tor Graves was next in the car and he kept 5th place.
One hour before the noon returned to the car John Martin who did not manage to keep 5th and lost one place. Jan Charouz’s last stints started 1:30pm and the Czech driver kept sixth place in the class and 13th overall. Tor Graves took the honour to finish the race for the ADR-Delata team and he kept the position till the checquered flag.
ADR-Delta team with drivers Jan Charouz, John Martin, Tor Graves managed to finish 80Th edition of the 24 Hours Le Mans race in 6th place in the LMP2 class. The British team was classified 4th in the results counted towards the World Endurance Championship and thanks to Jan Charouz set fastest LMP2 lap of the race.
Jan Charouz: “I am obviously very happy that we finished the race. However, it is a bit pity that we did not get better result. We were really fast but we had some technical problems and punctures. I am happy that I set fastest LMP2 race lap. It is always a great experience to race at La Mans. Moreover, I again managed to finish it – for the sixth time in a row.”
John Martin: “I have new favorite track and favorite race. I really enjoyed 24 hours Le Mans race. Doing long stints and driving during day and nights simply stunning. I will probably never forget driving during the down.”
Tor Graves: “Le Mans race has big tradition and I fulfilled one of my dreams racing here this year. I pleased that I got a chance to cross under the checquered flag with our Oreca-Nissan. I took the opportunity I seized the opportunity to take a Thai flag behind the line. This year was about getting experience for next year.”
Alan Docking, ADR-Delta team principal: “The whole team worked very well. Unfortunately we had some small problems that prevented us to fight for a podium places. I am happy with our speed. To get pole position and set fastest lap of the race is very valuable for us.”
Antonín Charouz: “I am happy that Jan proved that he is one of the fastest prototype drivers. The offer to race at Le Mans came in the last minute and I certainly do not regret taking it although this crew could have done better. I would like to say big thank you to all partners and to the whole team for a good weekend.”
