Fisken happy despite Le Mans surfing session!!
Gregor Fisken admitted he was a happy man after Thursday's qualifying session at Le Mans, even though horrendous conditions ended everybody's hopes of improving their times from Wednesday.
Torrential downpours before, during and after each session left the famous circuit flooded with rain water for much of the time, but Fisken was in no mood to complain when he stepped out of his Larbre Competition Aston Martin DBR9.
Gregor enthused: "In many respects it brought back memories of Steve McQueen's Le Mans! It's important to remember that this race is not just about sunshine, but about filthy wet days and wet nights as well. It was more surfing than racing to be honest. It was very wet everywhere and the conditions were horrible.
"However it was a good night for me. It's the first time this week that I have driven in the daylight and the car felt good with the traction and braking particularly impressive. Aston Martin have also made some improvements to the gear box which is excellent. The car is still a little bit stiff in the corners, but in very treacherous conditions I think the DBR9 was as good as we could hope for and we ran at a very good pace."
Fisken was also pleased to get some wet running under his belt with the forecast predicting some more heavy rain at time during the race. "We don't know exactly what the weather will bring at the weekend but I imagine we'll see some more of the same. In that respect it was good to have a wet qualifying session because at least we now know how it feels to surf down the Mulsanne straight! It certainly grabs your attention but was pretty cool all the same! I'm really looking forward to the race now."
