Rinaldo Capello's Audi Sport Japan Team Goh R8 caught fire as he was exiting the pits on lap 324 after some fuel splashed on the rear of the car. The driver unfastened himself very quickly as flames spread over the right rear of the car but the marshals soon extinguished the fire. The car was checked over by the team and got going again thirty seconds later.

The incident moved second-placed Davies in the Audi Sport UK Team Veloqx to within ninety seconds of the leader and lapping up to four seconds per lap quicker but then suffered in traffic over the next few laps and lost a significant amount of time.

Jan Magnussen pulled out a one minute lead in the Corvette Racing C5-R over the Prodrive Racing Ferrari 550 Maranello of Alain Menu at the head of the GTS class. The Ferrari pitted but was pulled back into the garage for a new splitter to be fitted. It returned to the circuit a few minutes later but only for a couple of laps before he pulled back into the garage for more work on the underside of the car.

Patrick Long took back the lead of the GT class in the Peterson/White Lightening Porsche 911 GT3 RSR and an impressive 13th place overall, ahead of the #85 Freisinger Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3 RSR of Ralf Kelleners.

The lead Audi pitted on lap 339 for a driver change with Rinaldo Capello being replaced by Seiji Ara and new tyres and fuel being added.

The Pescarolo Sport Judd of Emanuele Collard, Sebastien Bourdais and Nicolas Minassian retired after 282 laps with an engine problem. "We had a good car, a great team," said Bourdais. "We were just very unfortunate. The Pescarolo PlayStation had two race days where things did not go how we would have wanted."
