TAYLOR MIINCH VICTORIOUS AT WKA
"Three podiums at New Castle Motorsports Park"
September 1, 2009 -- Looking to fill off weekend's with some racing action, California pilot Taylor Miinch traveled to New Castle, Indiana to compete in the fourth round of the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer's Cup series. Competing in four different classes, Miinch scored one victory as well as two other top five results in his first weekend of WKA action.
Saturday would see the current Championship Karting International (CKI) IAME Junior point leader contest in the HPV Junior Heavy and Yamaha Junior Lite divisions. The HPV class would provide Miinch's best results of the weekend as he qualified his Cory Pollock tuned Top Kart on the outside front row. Progressing through the heat race with a victory, Miinch would claim the second position in the main event after a fierce battle with another competitor. Crossing the scales and into post race technical inspection, Miinch was awarded the victory after the on track winner was found non compliant.
Miinch's toughest result of the weekend was in the Yamaha Junior Lite class. With trouble in qualifying, Miinch would not turn a time and would be forced to start the last chance race at the tail of the field. Finishing in the top five, Miinch would advance to the tail of the prefinal field where he lined up 30th for the start. Looking to move forward as much as possible, Miinch gained eleven positions throughout the eight lap prefinal to finish 19th. With a terrific drive in the final, Miinch was able to gain another eleven spots to finish eighth and score his second top ten result of the day.
Looking to repeat his success on Sunday, Miinch would compete in the HPV Junior Lite and Yamaha Junior Heavy classes where he was fast all weekend. First on the docket for the Top Kart driver was the HPV class where Miinch turned the fifth quickest time in the qualifying session. A solid sixth place result in the prefinal set up a good starting spot for the main event as the top drivers in the class ran nose to tail. Gaining two spots in the final, Miinch would score a fourth place result and his second top five of the weekend.
The Yamaha divisions proved again to be Miinch's toughest classes of the weekend as a fourteenth place result in qualifying would make it tough for the Californian to have a shot at the win. With a never give up attitude, Miinch claimed seventh place result in the prefinal and gained another two sports in the main event to score a solid fifth place result.
"There is a lot of competition here at WKA and the classes are huge," stated Miinch after the event. "We did really well with three top five results but we definitely have some homework to do. The Manufacturer's Cup is good to test your driving and tuning ability as everything has to be perfect to run at the front."
