The Snap-on Stars of Karting Series is pleased to announce that the TaG Intercontinental C (ICC) class will return to the national championship in 2009. Returning with a few changes, the TaG ICC class is expected to enjoy continued growth as a new carburetor and tire compound will be introduced to the class at the first event in Ocala, Florida.
With support from Italian Motors, the TaG ICC class will be run on the new Bridgestone YKB tire and the engine carburetor will be the Keihin PWM. Two other technical changes that will also take place for the fast approaching season will be the utilization of the full length CIK approved rear bumper design. These rear protective devices will be mandatory for all Snap-on Stars of Karting Series divisions except the Cadet class in 2009. Keeping up with safety concerns around the world of karting, the CIK rear bumper has proven to help reduce wheel-to-wheel contact. With the addition of the rear protective device, the TaG ICC class will now have a minimum weight of 400 Lbs. With very few changes expected for the class from 2008 to 2009, the above mentioned changes have been introduced based on driver and team feedback upon the completion of the '08 season.
Entering into its second season on the National level, the TaG ICC program continues to grow and provide reliable and competitive racing. The Dellorto carburetor will be replaced by the Keihin PWM to simplify tuning and adjustments. Any drivers entering into the program with a previous K9ES package will have their Dellorto carburetors replaced with Keihin carburetors free of charge.
The TM TaG ICC is a 125cc electric start shifter motor. The engine has been created with the TaG (Touch and Go) concept in mind; placing the emphasis on reliability. The K9ES does not have boost ports, has thicker bottom end bearings and crank pin than the K9C, as well as a rev limiter. The package was first introduced into the Stars of Karting program in 2008 and proved its exceptional value with great series competition.
The age for the TaG ICC category shall be 15 years of age and older. A driver's actual age as of December 20, 2008 shall establish his/her "competition age" for the 2009 competition year. Drivers under the required minimum age for a category may start the 2009 competition year provided they have met the age requirement for the category they are participating in on or before July 1, 2009.
Once a driver advances to and competes in the next higher age category in any verifiable National karting competition series, tour or race, at any level, from January 1, 2009 through October 31, 2009, he/she must continue to compete at that age category in Snap-on Stars of Karting competition, and may no longer compete at the lower age category under pain of penalty.
Drivers competing in the TaG ICC category will hold a B level license and will be permitted to compete in other senior level categories that require that same license level with the age restrictions of 15 years of age and older in 2009 Stars of Karting competition.
