TECH UPDATE: FINAL SET OF DOCUMENTS RELEASED
The Snap-on Stars of Karting Series announced today the release of the final set of technical documents in preparation for the 2009 National Championship series. The season-opening event will occur at the Ocala Gran Prix in Ocala, FL, March 6-8.
Included in the release is a Technical Primer describing the technical protocol necessary for competitors to understand in the restructured class and event format for 2009. Written in an informal style, the Primer is recommended reading for all Stars teams and competitors as it details the structure, new requirements and advice on how to best prepare for the 2009 season.
An official Technical Update is also issued that provides several changes to earlier released rules documents. Key to this update is the mandate of a 30mm exhaust header restrictor for the Junior National category and the requirement of flexible exhaust coupling only for both National classes. Also included is the issue of two rule supplements that define the KF engine category rules for the 2009 National Championship. The KF2 Senior and KF3 Junior categories were recently added to the Snap-on Stars of Karting class structure in an effort to reconnect with the series CIK roots. Consideration is made toward the economic impact of the decision and efforts are made to facilitate market balance while instilling stability through responsible administration.
Both KF classes will utilize CIK engine rules and the Snap-on Stars of Karting chassis rules, both with minor exceptions as spelled out in each Supplement. Significant points include: Both classes will require new-for-2009 clutches, KF3 will require the Tillotson HW10A carburetor only, KF2 will permit homologated front brake systems and a select group of ICA carburetors to assist with product buy-in. Class weights are set at 330 pounds minimum for KF3 and 355 pounds minimum for KF2. Weight studies will be conducted throughout the season and adjustments made as indicated.
Regarding the KF3 specified carburetor, the decision to specify a single carburetor is in response to identical actions by CIK as well as an effort to lower purchase prices for the KF3 package while removing one variable in performance. An agreement with Tillotson USA has been reached to supply new carburetors at a fixed price of 125 Euro. Until supply network distribution is established, all competitors needing immediate supply may contact Suzanne Shriver at Tillotson USA (312-502-7616) and reference your Snap-on Stars of Karting membership for discount pricing.
The Snap-on Stars of Karting Series will continue to provide news in regards to their 2009 National Championship and they are extremely excited about moving forward with the 2009 class structure. An updated rules package will also be announced in the coming days. Announcements for the Stars of Karting Eastern Division opener at the Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida will be forthcoming.
