Farmer wins exciting Gold Cup Money Race, five others leave with fine Briggs prizes at Spallco R.V. Sales Nationals

07.07.2009 -- G & J Kartway played host to the WKA Bully Clutches Gold Cup Series Spallco R.V. Sales Nationals last weekend, and a number of racers left the Camden, Ohio, facility very happy.

The Money Race after practice on Friday evening is quickly becoming one of the highlights of the Gold Cup national weekends. A success at the Gold Cup opener March 20-22 at Lowe's Motor Speedway, the Money Race again proved to be an extremely popular event at G & J.

Twenty-four racers took to the track for the 30-lap event, and every one of them received either money or product in return. AJ Roderick led at the halfway point, when the race stopped for a pill drawing to determine the invert. Roderick drew pill No. 9, meaning he would have to restart ninth for the final half of the race. That left the door open for Brett Farmer and Gary Lawson, two of the hottest drivers on the Gold Cup circuit, to battle it out for the $450 winner's prize. The two talented Midwest racers waged a heated battle, going back and forth throughout the course of the final 15 laps. In the end, Farmer got the win by a close 0.270-second margin over Lawson, who won the Money Race at the Lowe's opener. Jim Lipari finished third, while Zachary Linsell and Dan Koehler rounded out the top-five positions in the strong 24-kart field.

Farmer also was one of six lucky winners of some terrific Briggs & Stratton product which was randomly drawn for and given away at G & J. Farmer, along with Tanner Long, Russ Marinucci and Harry Smith II, each left Camden with a 2500-psi Brute by Briggs & Stratton pressure washer, which were drawn for at the Saturday morning drivers meeting. Two Briggs 5550-watt, 10-horsepower portable generators were also drawn for at the meeting, and the winners of those two impressive pieces of equipment were Skylar Robinson and Douglas Stearly.

Along with Briggs & Stratton, the following courteous sponsors helped WKA and G & J make the Spallco R.V. Sales Nationals a great success: G-Man Kart Works, Baker Racing Engines, Bear Racing Engines, Absolute Auto & Wells Motorsports, Robertson Torque, Ekartingnews.com, GT Machine, Turner Racing Engines, Thor Oil, Target Distributing, American Power Sports, Beasley Motorsports / Arrow Karts and of course series sponsor Bully Clutches. Tech men Bobby Gettys and Mike Everson each put up $20 toward the Money Race purse. And a generous individual who wished to remain anonymous added $100 to the winner's share of the purse.

A Pit Board covering the other big winners at G & J will be released later this week.

Update on Cameron Vargo

07.07.2009 -- As Bully Clutches Gold Cup Series competitors departed the Spallco RV Sales Nationals Sunday, July 5, at G & J Kartway in Camden, Ohio, many thoughts were on young Cameron Vargo. The Spencerport, New York, racer, who competes in the Sportsman 1 Heavy class, was involved in an initial lap incident with Chase Hawkins. The contact between the two drivers sent both off the track, crashing hard into the caution light pole.

While Hawkins checked out OK, Vargo was transported to a local hospital with a lacerated kidney and concussion. World Karting officials are very happy to announce that Cameron is now resting back at home, but will be out of competition for the next six to eight weeks.

As one of the few crossover drivers in WKA, Vargo's injuries will force him to miss the upcoming 1-800-GOT-JUNK Speedway Pavement national July 17-19 at Chapel Hill Raceway in Humphrey, New York, and quite possibly the New Castle Gold Cup / Pavement doubleheader August 21-23 in Indiana.

Anyone wishing to raise the spirits of our young racer are more than welcomed to send get well cards to the following address:

Cameron Vargo
1035 Washington Street
Spencerport, New York 14559

The staff of World Karting would like to extend their best get well wishes to Cameron and his family, and look forward to seeing you back on track very soon.

07.07.2009 -- The WKA Rage Karts Speedway Pavement Series will head north July 17-19 for the 1-800-GOT-JUNK Nationals at western New York's Chapel Hill Raceway. The event at Chapel Hill -- the second on the 2009 Speedway Pavement tour -- marks the first time the series has been in action since early April at Rougemont, North Carolina's OCR Action Sports Park.

Chapel Hill, located about 65 miles south of Buffalo in Humphrey, N.Y., has been a longtime host of WKA national events. The one-seventh-mile oval is one of the best paved tracks for kart racing in the country, and WKA always looks forward to heading to upstate New York for annual nationals.

Pre-registration closes Wednesday, July 8. With WKA's newly added option of pre-entering for a national event by fax or e-mail, there is still time. WKA is encouraging racers who fax or e-mail pre-entry forms to call the WKA office with credit card information. The fax line is 704-455-1609. The office line is 704-455-1606.

Racers may still enter when they arrive at the track.

Registration opens at 7 a.m. Friday morning. Practice runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. A mandatory drivers meeting will be held at 10:30 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday with qualifying and a full slate of Speedway Pavement national races to follow.

1-800-GOT-JUNK Nationals Pole Awards are sponsored by G-Man Kartworks. The Got to Have Heart Award is sponsored by Mumaw Racing and StarGazer. First-place Trophy Awards are sponsored by VP Mechanical.

As road racers make final preparations for Zoom Zoom Nationals, WKC announces new conveniences for VIR pre-entries

07.07.2009 -- Road racers have the opportunity to race nearly every weekend of July if they choose, and the tracks hosting the events are some of the best in the country. For the first time, the Woodbridge Kart Club (WKC) is offering online pre-registration for their two events later this month.

Of course, this weekend marks the first Zoom Zoom Nationals at Road America for the WKA Dunlop Tire National Road Racing Series and George Kugler / Bridgestone Manufacturer's Cup Series, both driven by Mazda. The much-anticipated event will have road racers traveling to Wisconsin from all over the country, but the event is just the beginning of a busy month and summer, especially for the road-racing group. July 18 and 19 will see WKC host a regional event at the popular Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, West Virginia. The race will be a bit of a warm up for the WKC racers as their biggest event of the summer -- the Road Race Summer Nationals at VIRginia International Raceway -- follows the Summit Point race just two weeks later July 31-Aug. 2.

Pre-entries for the Summer Nationals at VIR will be accepted until Friday, July 24. WKC is now accepting online credit card orders for the VIR Summer Nationals. Racers can utilize this convenient option by logging on to www.woodbridgekartclub.com/shop. WKC's upcoming regional event at Summit Point is also open of pre-registration, so be sure to select the WKA / WKC VIR National category when pre-entering via online.

WKC asks racers to remember to enter their WKA membership and transponder numbers in the comments section when checking out of the pre-registration tab. There is a 3 percent charge to cover WKC's costs. Pre-registrations are also accepted by mail for those who wish to pay by check or money order. Entry forms should be mailed to WKC, PO Box 84; Bakerton, WV 25410.

For more information, contact WKC officials Karen McCollum at 433-716-3052 or karen.mccollum@gmail.com or Bill Kassy at bill.kassy@gmail.com.
