DiLeo Scores Double Dip In TaG Finals At MRP
05.05.2009 - While it may have been 4 solid months since Daytona KartWeek, the site of the first national event of the new season for the George Kugler Bridgestone Manufacturer's Cup Series Driven by Mazda, certain patterns seem to be developing despite the long layoff, mainly in Tag competition. This past weekend, over 500 participants converged on Michiana Raceway Park in South Bend, Indiana for the series second stop of the 5 race run, for the MRP Speed School Nationals.
While Australian David Sera was the talk of the paddock area at Daytona with his 2 TaG victories, the top shelf of the TaG podium for race #2 belonged to Canada, namely in the form of Marco DiLeo. After nailing down the pole in day #1, DiLeo fended off the efforts of Chris Wehrheim and Andy Dunne to claim Final #1 in the franklinkart.com sponsored class. In Day 2 competition, CJ Lintner prevented DiLeo from the pole sweep, taking fast time, but had to settle for second in the Grand Products/Top Kart sponsored final on Sunday, as DiLeo swept by for an impressive double win for the weekend.
In other action, Kyle Kalish continued his mastery of the Grand Products/ Top Kart Cadet class, notching his third win of the young season in Final # 2, while Aiden Landauer bested Kalish on day #1 in the RLV Tuned Exhaust Products class, scoring his first national win of the year. Sage Karam was also an impressive double winner over the weekend, securing the top spot in both the Beasley Motorsports/Arrow Karts HPV Jr. Lite class, as well as the SCS Racing HPV Jr. Heavy class.
On the senior side, Ryan Stewart backed up an impressive Daytona, logging 2 wins as well, in the Ocala Gran Prix HPV Lite class, as well as the Margay Racing Products Yamaha Supercan Heavy class. Jeff Jewell also made it 2 in a row in the MKP Yamaha Masters division while Jamie Thiel checked in for her first national win of the year in the tsracing.com HPV Heavy class.
With 2 of the 5 blockbuster events in the books, the series now heads to new territory, historic Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin July 10-12 for the Zoom Zoom Nationals, a companion event with the Dunlop Tire National Road Race Series driven by Mazda. Information regarding the event will be finalized and placed on line shortly.
